5 Fabulous Retirement Party Ideas |

Since we're an Austin photo booth rental company, we at Trailer Booth Photography just love a good party! One of our favorite kinds is a retirement party, a chance for friends, family, and co-workers to get together and celebrate the contributions of one special person. Here are some great ideas for the next time you need to plan a retirement party: Choose a more specific theme – “Retirement” is kind of general, and it often means different things to different people. Therefore, it can really help your planning and everyone's enjoyment of the event if you narrow your focus a little. Some careers make for great themes – for a retiring teacher, make yourinvitiations look like blackboards and your cake look like an apple; for a retiring police officer, serve blue punch and other blue snacks. Alternatively, you could theme the party around a hobby the guest of honor enjoys, such as golf or gardening, or base your theme on something the retiree plans to do with their new-foud free time, such as traveling. Photo gallery or slideshow – Retirement party guests are often a mix of the guest of hono's family, colleagues, and friends from outside work. Help everyone get a full picture of the honoree's full life by displaying plenty of on-the- job and off-the- job photos. You can even include pictures from the guest of honor's childhood. Photos can be displayed in frames on a table or shelves, on a poster or bulletin board, or in a looping slideshow on a computer or projector screen. Retirement playlist – What's a good party without a great playlist? Not only is music a lot of fun, it can help cover awkward silences as the first few guests arrive, especially if they don't know each other. In addition to some current hits, be sure to include a lot of songs that your guest of honor really enjoys. Also, including some songs about work, leaving, and/or getting older certainly wouldn't be amiss – consider “Working Nine to Five” by Dolly Parton, “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen, “Happy Trails” by Roy Rogers, “When I'm 64” by The Beatles, and “My Generation” by The Who. Photo booth messages – In addition to the usual fun hats, glasses, and stick props, ask your guests to put a little deeper meaning into their pictures in your Austin photo booth. Have a few small chalkboards or dry-erase boards and chalk or markers on hand, and ask each guest to write a brief message of thanks or good wishes to their retiring friend and display it in one of their photos. After the event, you'll receive a flash drive containing everyone's pictures from Trailer Booth Photography, and you can share them with the guest of honor! Meaningful send-off – This party is meant to honor a certain person, so make sure you give them a little special attention. Gag gifts are common at retirement parties, but they can be expensive and they're not likely to be used or held onto for years to come. Try to give your guest of honor a gift that's fun and meaningful but doesn't take up a lot of space, or something that's useful. You could ask all the guests to bring a marble (representing all the “marbles” the honoree lost during their years on the job) and collect them all in a pretty jar, or you could ask everyone to contribute paper money (that way everyone can choose how much to contribute). Then fold the money into fun shapes and construct or purchase a small, artificial tree to attach the folded bills to – who says money doesn't grow on trees?
