An Introduction To Pood |

What Pood Means?
Pood (or ???) is a Russian word that refers to an old measurement of weight for Russians. It’s relevant to kettlebell users because CrossFit and other kettlebell workouts still build their workouts in poods sometimes.
A pood is equal to 40 Russian pounds ????), but that, as we shall see, is not the same as the pounds you are used to.
Converting Poods into Kilograms and Pounds
A single pood is equal to about 16.38 kilogram. 1 kilogram converts to just about 2.2 pounds. That means that one pood is around 36.11 pounds.
This roundabout for of conversion can be burdensome, so it may be easier simply to memorize the most common pood weights in kilograms or pounds (depending on your preference).
The most important weights to know are 1 pood, 1.5 poods, and 2 poods, since these are the once CrossFit most often works with. These weights, then, require a 16 kilogram kettlebell, a 24 kilogram kettlebell, and a 32 kilogram kettlebell, which would further convert to 35 pounds, 53 pounds, and 70 pounds.
